Re: IMPORTANT FORUM CHANGES - Please Read!

Been reading the rules and stuff on EP again. Got more questions:
    1) I was looking for a policy on bumping a thread (typically a bad thing that can get you in trouble from what little I've seen) and I couldn't find anything. So, what is the policy on bumping a thread to try and generate some new activity on it?
    2) Will our join date be the date we get merged into EP or the date we joined FP?
    3) I noticed from reading this thread http://experienced-people.net/forums...tions-answered that when you added the Rep and Thanks system you went through old post and handed them out where you thought they were deserved. Will you be doing that with the posts and threads from FP? Note to self: Remember to contribute my 2 cents worth once merged.
    4) I've noticed the last several times that I have gotten on EP that the "Last 24 hours:" is always 0. Since it is on the same line as blogs and entries I would assume that it means that there has been no new material added. You know what they say about assuming things so I thought I would ask instead; what does it mean?

Re: IMPORTANT FORUM CHANGES - Please Read!

You ask very good questions! May I emphasise that FP members don't need to worry about getting into trouble if their intentions are good. The 10 rules are quite simple but the major things to avoid are self-promotion - "come to my site and buy my Ugg boots!" - and fluff - "nice post thanks dear". Mods won't be issuing infractions left, right and centre. The good posters from here, especially the ones with higher post counts, will find that we prefer to have a quiet word by PM than to issue you an infraction or public beating.

    1. Bumping: We don't have a bump rule as our No Fluff rule covers that. You can revive any old thread by making a non-fluff post in it.

As a general rule, the moderators expect that the older the thread you are reviving the more useful and relevant your post needs to be. In the initial days (say for the first two months), we'll consider all FP threads to be "recent" threads. That will allow for ex-FP members to get ex-FP threads back in the public eye more easily (while still following the No Fluff rule, of course ). I'm keen to encourage FP members to take part again. Many of you have a lot to contribute and a lot to gain from interaction with the current membership at EP.

Any suggestions on how I can encourage and help FP members to start participating and benefit ... are most welcome.

    2. Join Date: I'm expecting you will retain your original join dates. I've not done a vB forum merger before but from what I've read you should retain your account age benefits.

    3. LOL, I'll certainly try! I've been through thousands of posts at FP in the last two weeks making tweaks like removing hotlinked images (we link directly to external sources rather than hotlink), removing public email addresses etc. I've read some of the posts multiple times. Yesterday I went through so many threads and posts I took the server down!

But the important thing for getting new thanks and reps to the ex-FP posts does not revolve around me issuing thanks and reps. It depends on how I can make these threads more visible so current EP members can find them and recognise the good posts. To that end I may organise for all FP threads to be in sub forums for a bit. So when you land on EP's VIP Lounge, there'd be a sub-forum for FP VIP Area. After a few weeks we could merge the two. I will personally post in some of the better threads to "bump" them for you.

    4. I don't know where you're seeing this. We don't get any days with no posts, not even the quietest of bank holidays. If you use the Advanced Search you can find all new posts in the last 24 hours, 48 hours, seven days etc. Perhaps you could send me a screenshot. If you're talking blog posts then that's right, we don't have new blog posts everyday. The vast majority of the action is in the forums, not the blog.
