A Big Welcome To Members From Flipping Planet

I know many of you haven't been posting in flippingplanet.com for a while and may not even get to see this, but for those of you who followed the link in my email, a very warm welcome from all of us here.

First, most of the merger went smoothly, but I haven't been able to import your ThankYous but please know that I am still working on this. My attempt at merging the ThankYou data from FP into the ThankYou tables here didn't work (if anyone knows how to do this, please contact me, I'm willing to pay for assistance).

I'm delighted you are here. More importantly, I hope you take part and you start posting. Many of you have a great deal to teach us and to learn from joining in and making posts.

You may have several questions. I'll try to answer some of them here. If you have any others, drop me a PM or post below.

    1. Why has my post count gone down?
I had to delete several posts and threads at FP that would not be suitable here. For example, threads discussing FP itself and feedback about FP. Further, posts were pruned in the process of bringing threads into line with EP rules. Some forums at FP were completely removed - such as Content Lock Pro which now has a new home.

    2. Where is my intro thread, the first one I posted at FP?
It's in a private area here. There were numerous posters who made one post in the welcome section and never returned. I don't feel it would be useful to have their threads here. Similarly, there doesn't seem to be the point of maintaining threads from those FP members who aren't joining us and posting. If you start posting here, I'll move your intro to our own Welcome forum and it'll be public again. If you don't see it after a few posts, let me know.

    3. What happened to Club 25 and Experience Points?
Unfortunately, we don't have either of those facilities here so I could not import that from FP.

    4. Why can't I access Groups or the VIP Area here?
It may be your post count. On these boards members need to have a minimum post count of 40 (50 for members who are already EP members) before they can access the VIP Lounge and Groups.

    5. What are the main difference in rules between FP and EP?
It's not that great a difference really. Try to add value in your posts and avoid self promotion and you'll be fine for the most part. Please note that we don't hotlink images or videos - provide the URL rather than embedding it in your posts, we don't reproduce quotes from private emails - you need to paraphrase if you want to share an email, we don't post phone numbers or email addresses publicly.

    That's pretty much it!

    6. TOTW: Threads Of The Week
This is a weekly bulletin we send out to all members listing some of the better discussions we've had that week. There is no advertising or promotion in it - it's purely a service we provide - so it's sent to all members. Unsubscribe information is in the email. A week by week TOTW archive is available here..

Our FAQ page answers some of the other questions, the forum rules are here, we have a thread to explain common abbreviations and this page explains about dormancy i.e. what happens if you don't use your account for a while and how you can make it active again. When in doubt, get in touch, we aren't looking to ban you, we're looking to make friends (and you might want to click that LinkedIn button at the top of this page).

Feel free to post any questions in here and I'll be happy to answer them.

Update: It looks like groups from FP didn't get imported either. There are one or two other snags. I'm working on them.

Well, I'm sure it'll all work out in the end. You're doing a grand job.

I'd also like to welcome the FP members aboard. It's great to have you here. Looking forward to getting to know some of you a bit better and exchanging knowledge and information.

I have not been on Fp in quite a while, but I lost my house and my family is being split up. I figure the best way to earn online is to learn all I can about flipping websites. See SEO seems to take way to long and flipping websites seems to be the perfect solutions. I do make a little cash every week I could put into this venture and look forward to learn all I can on here to put action into my flipping business.

    Hi Mark, Welcome to Experienced-People.net

I found SEO (both on-site and off-site) much easier to learn than buying and selling sites (flipping). I know how to build and maintain web sites, which is one requirement, but I had difficulty with finding sites I trusted to have accurate information, so learning due diligence is one prerequisite to the process. EP has an excellent resource for this on it's parent site. It is at http://www.experienced-people.co.uk/1058-due-diligence/ and there is also good information on buying and selling sites shown in the links on this page.

SEO is one process that enables you to compete with other flippers, in terms of recognizing the opportunity to improve sites for later resale. For example, if one of your traffic building techniques is to optimize on-site SEO, to get the site ranked better, then this is the type of opportunity you could look for when finding sites to flip. Everyone has their specialties and techniques.

If you have any questions, please feel free to start threads to ask about specific topics.

hi markreed757. Sorry to hear about your circumstances. Hopefully you've now found the right place to get the advice and acquire the knowledge to succeed. As Ken say, SEO is just one of the factors. We have a due diligence section here on EP where you can ask questions related to pre-purchase research. And we have both our own (fairly new) site flipping section and the one imported from FP.

Just an update. Someone here is very kindly helping me with the ThankYous.

For the database experts among you, the problem is this: The thankyou data is stored in multiple tables in the FP database. It's not a matter of extracting just one table. Each thank you that was awarded at FP was awarded for a specific post by a specific person. Each of those posts has a unique number and the thank you was allocated to that post ID. When those posts were imported here every post had to be given a new number.

The immediate idea that suggests itself is to create a table associating the old post IDs with the new post ID. Except ... how do you make the association? We're trying post time stamps as a unique identifier. Let's see how that goes.

There are few other complications in that some accounts from FP have been merged with the same name accounts at EP (if the contact email address was the same). Other dupe accounts (where the email didn't match) were treated differently.

Anyway, long story a bit shorter: Importing the thankyous (and the groups) is still work in progress.

I'd like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I hope the traffic and response here is better than it was at FP. I might be out of line but when I come here it is for the purpose of sharing. What I don't know I'm hoping to get an answer to and if I know or think I know something I give a response. I don't believe it should take day's for a response unless it is something WAY off topic in which case it might not even belong here.

Now I am new and don't have a lot of answers but I am willing to share what little I know. I don't normally spend a lot of time at forums because I belong to a couple of member sites where I am learning IM from the basics up. My goal is to become involved in domain and site flipping but without the basic understanding of how this all works I'm spinning my wheels. I am hoping it is different here and that everyone is willing to share their knowledge and give us newcomers some good direction.

In any case, I am glad to be here and hope to make good friends and acquaintances. Success to all of us!

Finally got in - have had login problems for a few days. Good to be here from SiteFlippingPlanet. I hope to make positive contributions here and learn from the many members here too.

    Thanks for having me.

I see that I can't update my profile settings until I make a few good posts. Good motivational push to keep my account.

    Thanks.

Hi LadyFlip, I'm glad my email sorted out your login problems.

alex44, I hope you find what you're looking for. There is already a huge amount members have shared on these forums. The best way of getting them to share more is to start doing some sharing yourself. Starting an informative thread or two giving us the lowdown on some of the IM lessons you've learned would be great. The Website 101 section on these forums would be a good place to post something like that.

Or start a thread on a different subject!
