A product written and developed in Portuguese

    Hey everyone,

I've been having these thoughts... I've been thinking in creating a product and marketing it in the Portuguese market. I'm living in Portugal and I find that there is a huge gap in this area. Also, I can easily rank on the local search engine which is a BIG plus.

Do you guys think it would be smart to create a "make money online" book/product?

Another problem I came across with is; how to start... I reckon there are lots of WSOs that teach me and lead me the right way. Can anyone point some ebooks/wsos out? I would really appreciate it.

    Nevertheless,

    Dean

Hi Dean, there's always scope for another MMO product and everybody + dog is exploiting that. Personally, I don't advocate creating a product in that space unless you're an expert in making money yourself. There are far too many products put together by people who have just rehashed other writers' material. However, it can't be disputed that there's money in selling MMO, especially if you can dominate the SERPs in a cc version of Google.

Clinton, that's the whole purpose for me doing this. I can easily dominate the search engines. Now, as for the product, I'm thinking of revamping some method already out there and translating it into Portuguese.

I've done some research, not much, to be honest, and I haven't found that many MMO products. There are some, very poor and very out-of-date. These are the main reasons I want to put myself, out there, in the Portuguese market. Not only to dominate it but to make some good $$.

    Dean,

Just because you can dominate a given market, that doesn't mean you'll make money from it. You've also got to consider the size of the market. You might well create the top-selling MMO product in Portuguese, but there are only about ten million people in Portugal, compared to I-don't-know-how-many hundreds of millions in English-speaking countries. It's true that there are a couple of hundred million in Brazil, plus some more in Mozambique, Angola and the like. But you've also got to factor in the figures for Internet access, computer ownership, and so on in those countries.

I don't mean to discourage you. I'm simply saying that you should do some serious demographic research before you jump in.

    Mikl,

Thanks for taking your time and replying to my thread. Everything you said is very true and I've thought of that. That's not the only obstacle I've came across with. Even to dominate such an empty market, I need to learn pretty well how to market the product properly so I don't have any loss. I'm still not certain if I'm going ahead with this or not... Perhaps I will if I read and learn the right stuff, or even, get some external help.

These kind of critics are very necessary and I don't take them the wrong way, Mike. Thanks!

    Welcome Dean.

Its an interesting concept and your definitely onto something tapping local markets that have not yet been realized is a fantastic way to make money. I do it with my local market with varying amounts of success. (based in Namibia).

A few things you need to consider, is that market untapped because a lot of Portuguese people at least those heavily internet active and with money to spend on a product are comfortable enough in English?

If you create a MMO for one specific language group are you not in essence creating a nasty pyramid of people selling among themselves. I mean I cannot partake in a Portuguese language based program so eventually a bubble has to burst there?

If I was to embark on something like this, I would focus on something like SEO + adsense how to or something not reliant on person to person interaction / cash exchange.

Is there not a more profitable and viable niche waiting to be monetized? A job portal for people who only speak Portuguese, travel guide in Portuguese? I have no real idea but I know I generally hate make money online schemes that rehash old information or promise unrealistic remuneration, sadly those are the ones that sell.

I mean if you feel you can sell SEO how to and its a viable product, you could make a lot more doing existing sites SEO as example. Just things to chew over, I think your on the right track looking to make money out of a market that has a language barrier as part of the entry level.

Huhm, very interesting, Slowdive. Thanks for taking your time and reading my thread.

Well, one of my biggest fears is that the book doesn't sell and gets leached to the most notorious warez/torrents sites. Why wouldn't it sell? Because the Portuguese people are scared of using PayPal, Moneybookers, pretty much making their credit card/bank account exposed on the internet. Do you get what I mean? How can I overcome this problem?

As for those job portals and travel guides, you might find it odd, but that area is already VERY well explored and developed.

As per my "introduction" thread, I've been working on gambling sites (such as blackjack, poker, etc) on the Portuguese market which has HUGE potential. I'm banking incredibly well at this point. Thus, I'm trying to get some money together and develop something else that will get me a constant income stream. Are you following me? That's pretty much my main goal, as the gambling network I have is very risky... Google can change their algorithm at any time and my sites just disappear, then I'll have no traffic -> no conversions -> no $$. This is my biggest fear. I need to replace this with something "more longterm".

Let me know what you have throw at me

    Once again thanks, man!

I just invested in some aged domains in the online gaming niche myself, so it wont be long before I am picking your brain in return. As to taking the time to read your thread more than a pleasure, finding ways to monetize sites or niches is a passion of mine. I faced a similar problem here people are basically allergic to using their cards online and and we do not even have paypal, well the average person does not. So I make a little just reselling domain registration here and a bunch of other stuff.

I totally get the need to increase revenue stream variation, however I always make money online offerings are the lowest common denominator, when people do not have a better idea they do a MMO. Thats not meant as a reflection on you, just the way the industry has made me see them.

Also MMO plans have very little longevity unless your offering some software or creating a community around them, so it may be quick cash but also may not last.

My personal feelings aside if you choose to pursue this assume your going to get pirated and try and work with that as much as possible.

Beat them to a bunch put your own work on filetube and all the others first, do it with affiliate links embedded into the pdf.
Release a few nice templates, but make sure the css does not render well in latest IE9, then provide a help.txt that says you can get the updated version at XXXX.com
Average joe does not or cannot edit the footer of a WP theme, so include links in their too sites (but not your main one to avoid a google slap).
Affiliate links will also stop your work getting onto most torrent networks.

Basically in a small niche assume your going to get pirated and plan for it. You'll never stop piracy but you can make a little bit of it work for you.

What ever route you opt to go I wish you a lot of luck and thanks for jumping in with an interesting thread.

Dean, You can get a jump start into the market by working with products already proven to be successful in your selected niche. Clickbank offers you the ability to translate and market successful products through their Global Bestseller Program. Portuguese is one of the new languages supported as of the end of last year.

    Hi guys,

I've been away for a while due to some business problems. Thanks for taking your time and coming over my thread.

I've read your posts and they seem to be very interesting, and I'll be applying some of those suggestions.

On the other hand, I'd also like to ask about Dropshipping. Any past experience?
