According to Matt Mickiewicz, owner of Flippa, the secret to making money from websites is to buy a site from Flippa and then sell it on Flippa for a profit.
Now why didn't I think of that?![]()

The truth is that, yes, there is money to be made in websites - in buying established sites that are generating regular profits. But all that siteflipping stuff is just hype. Some of you have read my rants elsewhere on the whole issue of people selling the dream of making money from flipping sites. Has anyone here actually done that? I don't mean have you ever sold a site at a profit but have you ever bought a site with the sole intention of selling it on for a quick profit? And did that work?
3Six, plenty of experienced people including myself have been successful in flipping websites. Personally I feel that the people who sold the dream of flipping websites have ruined the marketplace, and you'll come to realize that who ever is making money from it naturally isn't preaching about it. Flipping websites does require alot of work and due diligence which is why alot of the novices aren't successful and ahem most of the process doesnt require flippa regardless of what Matt Mickiewicz says..
But I do have to agree that most of what the eBook sellers dish out is hype. You won't certainly wont earn millions from it unless you have millions to wager with - flipping websites is my third income next to steady earning websites, which comes second to offline businesses.
mpcovcd, my earnings come entirely from earning websites. Flipping seems like too much of hard work and if I factor the cost of my time into it I can't see any way of making a profit. What makes it work for you? (That's not a challenge, I'm genuinely curious.)

Clinton the main aspect of being able to flip websites successfully is being able to efficiently outsource the work, I have employees in the Philippines who take care of design work, content work, seo work and all other aspects of turning around a dead or even growing a established website within a short amount of time. Like you said, if I was to spend the time to do all of this myself the profit to time ratio wouldn't be worth it for me, but all I have to do now is find a website to buy, and then find a buyer for it.
You make it sound so easyall I have to do now is find a website to buy, and then find a buyer for it![]()
