    Opinions requested from SEO people

OK, so as some of you are aware, I make my day to day living as an IT consultant for the Canadian federal gov't. Budgets were cut for this year to cut our deficit back down to size so the first people to go are the consultants so off I went, and off I've been since April 1st. The weathers been abnormally nice so I've been slacking off and enjoying myself instead of being productive.

With that said, I decided to do some keyword research the other day and I'd like some opinions on some of the items that I've found.

Using Micro Niche Finder I've found 23 two word key phrases that interest me because they are:
    • generic product names (no TM issues)
    • have available exact match .net or .org domain names
    • are related so research could be reused/repurposed
These key phrases break down as follows (all based on exact match):
    • Average global search count: 4252
    • Median global search count: 3600
    • Average CPC: 1.30
    • Median CPC: 1.25
    • Average Strength of Competition: 0 - SOC is defined as the number of pages that have the target keyword at the same time in page title, in url and in anchor text
As I currently have a lot of time and not much money I wouldn't mind trying my hand at some SEO and the such and these seem like they might be good bets.

For obvious reasons I can't share the exact keywords in this post but if any SEO people would be kind enough to take a deeper look into the keywords for me I'd be happy to provide some via PM.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sounds good to me!

    Go ahead and build it!

There's a ton more to go than just a domain name.

I think we sometimes put too much emphasis on the domain.... some people feel that an exact match domain name virtually guarantees their success - but if
you take a look at the SERPS you'll see it's rarely exact domain name match that has the #1 spot... especially in google.

The guy with the domain match may think it's all going to be smooth sailings, meanwhile his competitors are building up a great site, good content, even if the domain really sucks.

To answer your questions, I think it looks good... it's not fair to say really without knowing the keyword or how commercial the intent is (commercial versus informational can largely
    determine your conversion rate).

I say do what I always do, register the domain, install wordpress, write a unique article, set up an optimized title tag, h1 tag and spend a few bucks on building links... start the "incubation" period
as I like to say and decide later how much time and effort you'll be putting into it.

I had a site I did that with and then checked the logs one day and it was getting 15k-20k uniques a MONTH... out of no where.

Another site I did that with, ended up on the 1st page of google for a term that got about 800k searches in a single month (seasonal keyword).

Get things going and start the clock and then later see if it has some legs. I have a ton of these sites sitting out there...

Some of them have turned out pretty well, others not so well, but it was a lot more motivating to see them indexed and decent in google before I really
started to invest a lot of time with them.

If you want more info, I'm happy to share what I do exactly to throw some links at them but remember to start now instead of later... domain age is a killer!

Are you talking about building Adsense sites? I'll have a look at a couple of the keword phrases if you want.

tke71709, sorry to hear about the problems at work.

You know, of course, that you can PM me with keywords etc., for suggestions at any time, mate. I don't profess to be an SEO expert, but I do sometimes have a bright idea or two.

have available exact match .net or .org domain names.....
    • Average global search count: 4252
I'd be a bit cautious with interpretation of that average global search count. If 4,000 out of that 4252 searches were done outside of the US, ccTLDs may take preference over your domains no matter what SEO you do.

I would agree with TrustButVerify that the sooner you start the incubation, the better. That's, of course, subject to you being 100% satisfied on the domain name itself!

Thanks for your kind words everyone but don't worry about me.

I "invested" wisely when I married my wife so I'm not going bankrupt anytime soon, we've also spent the last five years paying down the mortgage on our home to the point where it's essentially inconsequential and we have no other debt. We knew that the good times of low interest rates wouldn't last forever and we wanted to be prepared for when the tide turned.

As far as the searches goes this product would be a western world product, I can't see people in China, India, etc... being a large percentage of the searches.

I've sent a couple off to JJ for his review, we'll see what he says.

I've replied to your PM mate, I should point out that I can't really comment on the suitability of these keywords for Adsense sites, my experience with Adsense is limited, but I can comment on how competitive they are and how easy or not it would be to rank for them so hopefully that's of use to you.
