    UK Coalition Government

It's been an exciting few days here in the UK. Well, for me at least. I've been glued to the TV watching the drama.

Now that Cam and Nick are in office, I'm hoping for big things, not least the scrapping of that ridiculous, over-priced, pointless ID card scheme. Knocking a few quid off the deficit wouldn't hurt either. Billions don't seem very big when we hear the figures every day but, apparently, if the UK government had borrowed a million pounds every day they would have had to start borrowing before the birth of Christ to reach the current level of shortfall. Ouch!

    What are you hoping for?

I'm not really hoping for anything from the new government, I know what we're going to get is just more of the same. I only vote to make sure some extremist party doesn't get in like the BNP but I really couldn't care less which politicians are 'in power' or what they call their party because I don't believe that they're really in power at all. Sure they run things day to day but the money decides the big issues so when you're trying to figure out who's in charge, look where the money is. My question to candidates isn't 'what do you believe in?', it's 'who owns you?'.

The reason the oil companies run this planet is that we keep giving them our money, every peeny of it came ffrom our wallets, that can change. I vote everytime I spend money, I try to put my money into the pockets of the companies that I want to see owning politicians, not the unethical scumbags that own them at the moment.

Sorry, must be having a 'taking everything too seriously' day.

I know what you mean about the money. And to a large extent I agree. But a Queen's speech that includes no income tax below £10K, increased CGT on non-business assets, no sops on IHT etc., can't be driven by people who own the politicians, can it?

I hate to admit this, but I really am excited at the changes I see possible with the coalition.

Nope, that stuff is just smoke to keep our eye off the ball (with the exception of grass roots business level politicking and lobbying for economic advantage). How cynical of me is that..... Between religion, football, alcohol and income tax breaks, they keep the masses nicely focussed on stuff that doesn't really matter.

The one thing I am pleased about is that the 'ruling' party will have someone sat looking over their shoulders, like an oversight committee, that might make a slight difference but to be honest I'm just waiting for the first scandals and the first lies and broken promises to come out cos they will. Watch this space.
