Building your first website
Afternoon everyone,
This is something I've been going through recently, so I thought I'd use it as an excuse to find out more about everyone else on here
What was the first website you built, with the specific goal to generate cash? How did it go, and would you call it a success? Was there anything you learned during the process that has helped you go on to greater success today?

Er, I don't know if I built any site with the specific goal of generating cash. Or if I can claim to have built any site from ground up by myself (except for these forums).
My style is more towards buying sites others have built and holding them or improving on them.
In the early days I chased the cash. I didn't see any point in buying/developing something unless I had a clear monetising strategy. That's changed. If there's one thing I've learned it's that the bigger money moves in subtler ways and that, like a crab, if I walk sideways I end up moving ahead!

Ultimately, I'd like to be in a similar position- being able to buy succesful/semi-succesful sites and improve them to generate profit. However, given my current situation, building one from the ground up is really the only way to go, and I am enjoying the process so far.
Even though I didn't design the website myself, I hired someone to do that, I don't think anything compares with the feeling I get when I log on to the site, and think- 'Yeah, I own that'. It's a funny feeling really, like pride mixed with excitement.
