What market stats would be useful to you?

Sites like Flipfilter provide some awesome stats on marketplaces - four marketplaces in Flipfilter's case.

The majority of his stats come, understandably, from Flippa. He has an API access to certain sections of the Flippa's database and draws his figures and information from there.

However, such API access offers very restricted views. For one, you wouldn't get to see all figures, just the figures Flippa choose to share with you. There would also be restrictions on how you use those figures. For example, you wouldn't be allowed to use them in a way that Flippa doesn't approve. If there's data or stats that's useful to buyers or sellers but not helpful to Flippa, you might have to avoid disclosing them.

What stats/information from Flippa would you find useful over and above that provided by the Flippa search feature? There's a good reason I'm asking, it might be possible to arrange to get that data.

    Some examples:
All listings that have been suspended.
All sellers who have been suspended / banned.
A list of sites that are publicly showing as sold but where the sale has fallen through or there's a non-paying buyer.
Comments that have been removed from listing threads.
All listings where the BIN is less than/more than 12x monthly profit...

I don't know. As a seller, as a buyer ... what would you find useful?

As a seller I'd be interested in seeing some statistical data about the most successful auctions (in terms of revenue multiples) to see what leads to better results in terms of : auction length, upgrades, reserve, stats, number of bids, established buyers/sellers profiles etc.
Also would be interesting to see some data on top buyers.

As a buyer list of sites that have not sold, but had bids or sold but sale fell through would be interesting.
Also some completed sales where buyers later left a negative feedback.
Members who leave a lot of comments but have very few deals.

    Excellent suggestions! Thanks.

I'll arrange some of that in the next few days and publish on this site.

    Anyone else?

Who comments and what auctions they comment on, so for example say I choose Seller X as the auctioner and I would be able to see a cross section of all of your auctions and then if someone has commented on multiples of your auctions. I could then dig into those comments to maybe get a glimpse if any shill bidding is happening.

Domains being auctioned across multiple platforms? DP, Flippa etc etc

Thanks, grynge, those are awesome suggestions. I'll add them to the list.

In the meanwhile, I'm going to be releasing some other stats. For example, most people don't realise but Private Sales in Flippa have a very low success rate. Flippa shows only the sales that were successful and with a properly configured advanced search you can get a list of Private Sale listings that didn't sell. But you can't see them together. Here's a table showing the most recent closed private sales together. In the first 30 or so there are only two successful sales. How can I make data like that more useful to buyers?

I don't know exactly how far you are going with this tool, but another couple of very handy options to me would be to see
a list of sites on the ip address of the site being sold
a list of sites under the same name of the owner of the site
a list of sites under the same GA code
a list of sites under the same Adsense code

The reason this would be handy is you can get a quick glimpse at what the seller is doing, if the site is a duplicate of 100's of other sites? If the seller is a 1 off website owner, or has a large portfolio. But that would need access to other sites api's like domaintools or links to free offerings?

That would be useful information but it would take a significant effort and some cost to connect to the various APIs provided by third parties. If I see a commercial opportunity in making those connections, I'll take it up.

I was looking for the kind of information one could extract simply from access to the Flippa database. Here's another example of useful data from the Flippa database, it was compiled by a blogger who scraped Flippa and his post was mentioned on Flippa's blog.

Whether any other domain that the seller has sold has come back up for sale somewhere? Thats always a good indication that something is not quite right.

It would be easy to see if the site sold at Flippa before and who the seller was.

Flipfilter offers this facility but it doesn't go back in history far enough, it goes only to when Flipfilter started collecting data, not the beginning of Flippa. This could be improved on. This bit is easy as even a simple Google search reveals if the domain name was listed before.

What would be cool is if I can provide that data even if the previous listing was confidential (with URL not disclosed to the public)!

Yeah that would be cool, also if it came up for sale on other sites dp, the brokers, sedo etc etc and especially if you had the previous price paid. I have seen sites in the past that looked good till I search and found they were a dropped domain or sold on dp for a pittance or previous bids were only xx
