It may be partly my fault (in any failure of communication, both parties share some of the blame, as I keep telling my wife, but she just says "you're not listening"). I'm a little puzzled that their website only seem to have an interface for writers, who submit directly to publishers. How does the site make any revenue itself?

OK. My problem may have been finger trouble. I've tested the system by using my Heypublisher writer account to submit a story myself, and at the same time to use the facility for sending a covering note separately. Everything arrived pretty well immediately (unlike most of my experiences with resetting and changing passwords on popular sites). The cover note arrived in my e-mail, and the submission was accessible through the plugin, where I had options to reject, hold for later review (which prevents the submitter from offering the article to any other Heypublsher publisher until I've made my decisison) or email the submitter.

The plugin functions seem reasonable. Now it's up to me to promote the submissions page in the hope of finding one or two authors...

In my role as writer, I received status e-mails to say the submission was under review, and the follwing rejection slip:

You are receiving this email because you submitted work to France for Freebooters, which uses HeyPublisher to manage submissions.

    Dear Michael,

We're sorry to inform you that France for Freebooters has rejected your submission titled "Rosy Thornton’s new book ‘Ninepins’, a review of a novel set in the Fens".

The editor sends along the following note:

You should take this opportunity to share your thoughts about France for Freebooters with your fellow writers. Feedback from writers like you let other writers know what to expect when submitting their work.

In the meantime, you know what they say: They can't keep a good writer down. So why not submit "Rosy Thornton’s new book ‘Ninepins’, a review of a novel set in the Fens" to another publisher today.
I don't appear to have any control of the wording of the rejection slip. 'The editor' refers to Heypublisher, not me, which could be a little confusing. If I want to encourage a submitter whom I've rejected, it looks as though I'll have to send a separate e-mail.

Thanks for starting this thread, Chabrenas. This is a useful service that I wasn't aware existed. Your struggles with their system (and the limitations you're discovering) are being watched by people like me.

I don't appear to have any control of the wording of the rejection slip. 'The editor' refers to Heypublisher, not me
That's probably intentional. They want to squeeze in some advertising for themselves. If they give you control over the wording, you might remove mention of their service.
