Is the IPHONE 4S worth it - or stick with an IPHONE 4?

OK so the 3GS is dead. Long live the 3GS. Seems it does not like rice. Or curry. Certainly not horizontal rain.

So I am faced with a choice upgrade to Iphone4 for free or pay more for a 4GS
Is the difference worth it? on the face of it faster (is that important?) a bigger camera (hardly much)

Are there other issues to worry about like reception or battery life?

4S users what do you think?

Cannot advise on the merits of 4s over 4, however at the time I had the impression that the 4s is a stop gap model. Would it be possible for you to get the 4 on a short contract or another 3gs and upgrade to 5 once it is released?

I intend to hang on to my 4 until the 5 is out.

Mikeb do you travel overseas? If you do 4G has different versions, the 4G they use in the USA isn't the same as 4G in Australia etc etc

Occasionally - but I tend to use WIFI skype to talk to people when abroad - I turn data roaming off, and never use it for outbound calls.

Where does 4G score over 3G - is it essentially for high data flow, like downloading video?

If I already had a 4, I'd stick with that it's not enough of an upgrade to get the 4s. If I were buying a new one, I'd just get the newest model available (currently the 4s). I own a 4s, never had a 4, from what I've heard it's in incremental upgrade, faster, better display, etc. Also, from what I've heard, the next major OS update is going to bring a lot of the new features to the 4 that the 4s currently has (software features anyway). I don't think anyone outside of Apple really knows how long until the 5 is due out, could be a few months, could be 2014.

There are moral issues here too mike. The precious metals in the phone's circuit boards are often sourced in poor African countries where civil war, genocide, child slavery, child soldiers and mass murder are the result of the need to control the supply of those metals to the Western world.

I could have upgraded my phone a couple of months ago but I'm going to keep it till it dies. It does what I need, I don't care if it's not the latest gen or lacks a couple of features that I don't even know about right now.

I'm not going to link anything, just Google it if you're interested to know more.

I have a 4 not a 4s. Other than speed and display improvements mentioned earlier, the biggest difference is the AI Seri. I found an interesting video on youtube comparing the speed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1zLg4itgZA

If speed is your thing, go with 4s. For me, the difference isn't that huge.

You're welcome but for the sake of accuracy, it's not the environment that I'm particularly concerned with in this instance. It's the cruelty and human suffering that the greed and thoughtless consumerism of the West causes.

Did you know that it's common for children to be forced to kill their own parents before they're given drugs and brutalised and trained to fight for the warlords that are trying to control the mines where these minerals are sourced? Not forgetting the kids that are actually working in those mines. So that we can upgrade our phones every six months.
