While I don't see a good reason to increased their prices and not mention it publicly, I'm definitely not against them raising their prices. Aside from the fact that it will add to Flippa's bottom line (which I'm sure was a healthy portion of the price increase), it also helps weed out the junk listings a bit.

If they make it more expensive to list sites that have a lower likelihood of selling, they'll keep more trash sites off Flippa I think. Additionally, they'll see a bump to their completely sales rate (I'm assuming) with a price increase up-front. I remember selling on eBay in what seems like another lifetime. I'd also listed on other "free to list" platforms that were absolutely HORRIBLE and filled with all kinds of junk. eBay was better because they charged up-front. (They continued to bump their fees, though, and ultimately I ended up feeling quite burned...that eBay was eating up all of my margins...something Flippa should carefully consider, I think)

Quite honestly: the last time we announced a minor increase, the actual discussion on success fees was buried in negative comments from people who don't actually sell, or who haven't sold for awhile, or who wouldn't be affected by this change.

This time, we decided to let the most frequent sellers and brokers know over email, and respond to user concerns where they show up (here, for example) from actual sellers. You'd be surprised at the response we've gotten over on our support email: a few negatives, but generally an acknowledgement that it may help discourage very low-end sites from being listed, which is a positive thing for higher-end sellers. As always and everywhere, concerns and complaints are louder than satisfaction.

If we could do it over, would we announce it publicly? Possibly, but I'm glad we tried first engaging with sellers where they naturally communicate.

But isn't it the case that many online shops (especially for software products) give you the price only at the end of the shopping? Did it annoy you because you already had a figure in your head and were surprised ... or because you believe the price should be disclosed at the outset?

A shop is a bit different, though. It doesn't take hours to prepare a listing.

Flippa aren't stupid, though. They know that people are going to pay once they've gone through the trouble of preparing a listing, most likely with the "oh it's only an extra 10 bucks mentality". I'd imagine most first time sellers check the pricing page as well, so it's only really regular turnkey site sellers who are affected.

It's annoying because i was listing one week and the price was $19 then the next week another listing and price increased to $29!
I didn't know that and contacted support. They replied it has been changed for some time....

I have been away so this is new to me. I like it but only because it may prevent a lot of low sites to be listed. That's the only reason.

In my opinion this is getting ridiculous with the increase of fees and is not justifiable. If they're doing this because they want to eliminate this type of site or that from listing, then why not just make it a private marketplace. The bulk of their sales seems to be from the lower end so obviously not everyone has a big budget to spend. I think the real purpose behind this increase is greed and is not going to eliminate "junk" from the marketplace if that is what is being claimed as the reason. I think more sellers are going to realize they are getting the short end of the stick and move on to sell their sites elsewhere. They have a lot of non-paying bidders that needs to be addressed or are they assuming they are going to leave with the "junk" sellers...I doubt it. Make them pay success fees and see how fast they disappear.

Not really. There aren't a great number of places where you can sell junk sites (as opposed to just listing them). Try listing a junk site in these forums and you'll soon get some replies you won't like as we've seen already.

But you can sell at Flippa because Flippa has put a lot of time and trouble to develop the type of buyers who pay money for these sites.

Actually I was referring to the fees for sellers to take their sites elsewhere. Junk is just the excuse being suggested as the reason for the increase in fees which I'm not buying.
