survey, quiz, questionnaire? which is right?

Greetings everyone! Long time no see to most of you, and nice to meet any new ones! I'm currently working on a website where I'd like to create some form of questionnaire/quiz/survey where the user inputs/answers questions about their needs and i can recommend a certain "product" or for them based on the collected data. Would this even follow the lines of something like a quiz? or would it be more like a mini program?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

Don't understand that question. In particular, what you mean by a "mini program" in this context? And how does it differ from a quiz?

That said, I can see what you are trying to achieve. But think about it from the visitor's point of view. He visits your site to look for a product. He needs some advice on which product best meets his needs. Would he really be interested in taking a quiz at that point? Or, even less likely, take part in a survey?

If I were you, I'd present it to him as something like "Product locator" or "Get help with finding the right product". Once he's accepted that, you would present him with the same sort of question-and-answer routine that you have in mind. But it definitely should not be presented as a quiz or survey.

Furthermore, this should very much be an optional extra. I would think many visitors would simply prefer to browse around to see what you've got. Also, don't do it unless you have a big range of products.

Thanks for the input Mike! I was really having trouble iterating what i meant, but you hit it on the head pretty well! I would never present it as such I was just unsure what to call it! I believe this type of thing would be pretty beneficial for my niche seeing as there's quite a few options and many different designs i deal with. I want my website to appeal to both the people coming here that already know what they want and the people who are complete beginners to the subject and need a helping hand of direction. It would be completely optional of course, sort of like "If you need help determining which setup is right for you, use our *blank* Tool to point you in the right direction!" or something along the lines of that. Any clue as to where I could find something like that?

    That sounds exactly right.

It's not the sort of thing that I would expect to find as a ready-made script. But maybe someone else can point you in the right direction.

What is your site built on? I know there are some WordPress plugins that offer quiz functions, although these tend to be simple multiple-choice quizzes

If your site is built on WP, this looks like it might do what you want: http://www.wpplugz.com/ourplugins/wp...e-test-plugin/

    Hope this helps,
