Yes, and who can Google trust more than themselves? The trust is in those signals of usefulness and Google know theirs are genuine.

All I'm saying is that the jury should still be out on this but there are plenty of people who have Google already hung drawn and quartered simply because they don't like them.

So if they aren't guilty of biasing themselves then why would they come to an agreement? Why do you think I don't like Google? I love them I have shares in them and will continue to hold their shares, they have made me a lot of money in the past and I assume they will help me make money in the future. But just like any wholesaler if the service is poor or I get better prices elsewhere I am going to jump ship, if they keep slapping the people that made them who they are people will eventually fight back. I don't think it is at that stage but if you read any webmaster forum people are becoming very disheartened at their products and are searching for ways to get by without them.

Could you imagine for a minute (I have no belief that it would happen) that if all webmasters came together and blocked google, what would be left of google? Youtube and plus?

They are trying hard to not rely on exxternal sites but at what cost? The serps used to be the best site for your search, these days it's the highest payers then all of googles real estate and then maybe the best site for your search.
I got out of bed today staring at a ghost. Who forgot to float away, didnt have all that much to say. Wouldn't even tell me his own name.
    Non ducor, duco

What is 'the internet'? The people who use the internet didn't decide which signals represent usefulness and then implement them into an algorithm that blew away the competition it was so much better than what we had before, Page and Brin did. After years of fighting spammers, that's moved more toward trust.

I don't know you'd have to ask their lawyers and my comment about not liking Google was not aimed specifically at you but at anyone who's allowing their dislike of Google to colour their perception of what's happening. And the same applies to anyone who likes Google.

Then from the way I look at life, you're supporting that company in the most fundamental way that there is including supporting the way they act and what they stand for. You're voting with your wallet.

They would go out of business, and someone else would replace them. What do you imagine would change? (wow..... I transposed the letters in the word 'imagine' just then so badly that the word the spellchecker thought I was trying to type was 'Iphigenia'.... )

Why do so many discussions about Google seem to end in divisions? It seems many either love them to bits or hate them.
In truth our relationships with Google are no different to many other relationships, there are things about them we like, things we dislike. Things we would rather they don't do but tolerate because of the good things that they do do. Most of us in this forum probably use Google to help in our everyday businesses, Google Analytics is very useful as is Webmaster Tools. Sure, they get it wrong sometimes and they piss a lot of us off with their chopping and changing, but overall IMHO they aren't bad and are certainly better than what went before them.
