    Some of the existing WP plugins may not work if they use the DB and include SQL in MySQL specific syntax. I think most of the add ons to allow you to use other DBs "translate" the code from MySQL syntax to the other DBs syntax, so they would probably cover the most common cases however.

    One has to wonder why Oracle would buy MySQL. In many ways it makes more sense than some other acquisitions as their main business is supposed to be DBs. I'd say the primary reason would be to take out a main competitor and increase Oracle's profit margins. They don't want to be number one - they want to be the ONLY one. Kind of creepy when you link this thought to the meaning of their name. What's next? Doing away with individual installs and making everyone use the cloud version of the software? Might be mighty handy for hackers.
