40% discount being offered by Flippa

Chris Yates, a member here, mentions on his blog that when he started a listing at Flippa and abandoned it, Flippa's (automated?) systems got back to offer him a 40% discount to continue with the listing.

He speculates that it may be only because his site was a quality site with high traffic/revenue but, of course, not knowing the site in question it would be worth trying this on any listing at Flippa. Bear in mind that Flippa have no way of properly verifying traffic and revenue claims for all sites so it's entirely possible the 40% offer is made to any half done listing that's not taken to completion. Given that from the end of May to now the number of Open Listings on Flippa has dropped by 25%, it's highly likely they're making offers like this to boost sales.

If you're planning on listing at Flippa, it may be worth trying a delaying tactic to see if it prompts the discount offer.

I think I've seen this before with some of my drafts.

Is it really worth waiting a few months just to save a few dollars on your listing fee? I'm almost certain it doesn't apply to upgrades and/or success fee

Look at how many sellers have more than 100 listings. Exact time and date of the listing is irrelevant to the bulk of Flippa sellers who are career sellers making and selling template sites by the hundred. It might be worth them giving it a shot. If it works they save over $1,000 per 100 listings. In effect, Flippa is giving them the listing at approximately the old price of $19. I don't know if you need to wait months.

Sure - but now Chris has blogged about it and you've posted here... I'm sure Flippa will close this down pretty quickly if people start "exploiting" it. Off the top of my head - I think it got sent to me about 3 months after making the draft - I might be wrong though (and I haven't read Chris' blog post).

I recall there was a 50% discount some time ago for listing. But looks like it's no longer valid, I wonder if there is any way to get a discount for a premium listing though?

Thanks for the mention. I just wanted to confirm what I said in the blog post was exactly what happened. It was about 2 or 3 days after I finished entering a 100% completed listing that I received the email.
